Representatives from Elant at Wappingers Falls have been invited by Rotary International to speak at the annual Rotary International Day at the United Nations Nov. 8. New York’s largest elder care provider, serving more than 3,000 members of  Westchester and the Hudson Valley, Elant has been invited to speak about its  Elderact service club, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Wappingers Falls.

Providing opportunities for local seniors and Elant residents to volunteer and give back to their communities was the brainchild of Louise Quartuccio, director of social work, who was inspired to form an Elderact club while attending an Interact Rotary conference held in Connecticut in 2007.

“Many of our residents had been active community members prior to moving to Elant at Wappingers Falls,” said Quartuccio. “Providing a purpose for seniors to participate validates  their own sense of self-worth and purpose.”

Wappingers Falls’ Elderact club, Roy C. Ketchum High School’s Interact Club and Semper Fi Parents of the Hudson Valley are currently working on a collaborative project:  Operation Santa, providing holiday video cards and gifts for U.S. troops.
