In another advance for foodies and farmers and for those who urge us to eat what grows in the region, a Westchester businesswoman is offering online access to the furrows of Ulster County.

The expanded take on CSA – community-supported agriculture – will deliver vegetables from Milton (and from another New York Farm on the Vermont border) to a location near client homes every two weeks from mid-June till November.

The program extends throughout Westchester and Putnam counties, and for an additional charge, into Rockland County and Fairfield County, Conn.

MyPersonalFarmers.com has for three years served as a sort of online farmer’s market, allowing customers to point and click for fresh vegetables, produce and meat products to be delivered. Now, the site is taking the CSA idea and moving it on line.

“I decided I had to try and build a CSA model online,” said Maryanne Hedrick, owner of MyPersonalFarmers.com, based in Peekskill. “Getting food from a farm is so highly valued, and the CSA approach is also one of the most economical models out there.”

CSAs are a growing trend where farmers sign up customers in advance of the growing season. This provides the farm an income during the months when nothing can be harvested outdoors in the Northeast.  Throughout the growing season, the farmer provides customers with a mix of seasonal fare every week or two weeks. Customers typically journey to the farm and pick up their share.
