A federal judge accepted a $635 million settlement by Purdue Pharma L.P. for misleading patients about its OxyContin pain-relief drug.
Originally reached in May, the criminal settlement includes $35 million in fines on retired President Michael Friedman; Howard Udell, general counsel; and Paul Goldenheim, Purdue’s former chief medical officer.
The men avoided jail terms, but received three years of probation and must complete 400 hours of community service related to preventing prescription drug abuse.
