A movie by wife-and-husband Fairfield County filmmakers Kelly and Roland Becerra titled “Dear Beautiful” has been selected for the 2009 Sundance Film Festival in Utah.

The animated short has been named an Official Selection by the 2009 Sundance Film Festival. This year, the Sundance Film Festival, which runs Jan. 15-25, selected 200 films for exhibition from more than 9,000 submissions.

The Becerras are principals of the production company SoMuch Pictures.

The film was the winner of the Moving Pictures Magazine Animated Short Film competition and screened at the prominent French festival at Cannes.

The film, which is alleged to feature fetching zombies, has captured audiences and critics alike.

The story is set in New Haven and revolves around the sudden appearance of exotic flowers there, rumored to be the result of a botched experiment by cosmetics giant.

Though the setting is Connecticut, the influences of the artist, Kelly, are not.

"All my work is about my childhood growing up in the Midwest," said Kelly Becerra, who also has her own blog.

The Becerras moved to Bridgeport as residents in the city’s first artist housing development, Read’s ArtSpace. The film is the result of five and a half years of work between the husband-and-wife collaborators.

Web sources are saying they have created a unique and gripping animated horror movie using flash animation and stop-motion techniques, often utilizing a scanner as a tool of art.
