Competition is growing – growing eyelashes and eyebrows – in the health and beauty market in which Alicia Grande is launching her private label product from her home in White Plains this fall.
Her trademarked product is GrandeLASH-MD, a medically formulated eyelash conditioner packaged in a 4.5-milliter tube and applied like liquid eyeliner. It joins at least 10 other U.S. eyelash growth products vying for market share, including Latisse, the first federally approved prescription drug for longer, thicker lashes. Allergan, maker of Botox, the cosmetic wrinkle remover expected to reach $1.2 billion to $1.22 billion in net sales this year, introduced Latisse early this year. Allergan officials project about $60 million in net sales of the product in 2009.
A monthly supply of Latisse costs $120, Grande said. She is marketing GrandeLASH-MD as a cheaper and similarly effective alternative, at $59.95 for a five-month supply.
Apply nightly at bedtime after facial cleansing, said Grande, a media ad buyer as owner of Grande Media and host of “The Health Buzz,” a radio talk show promoting alternative health products on WVOX-1460 AM in New Rochelle. “For quicker results, twice a day. I did it twice a day.”
