The girls’ club is reinventing itself.

Barbara Kobren of Briarcliff Manor, Susan Spiegel of Armonk and Deborah Mehne of Pound Ridge are each other’s self-proclaimed therapists, friends and business partners.

But before images of Cosmopolitans and late-night romps come to mind, one factor separates the women from their pop culture counterparts – a cause.

Four years ago, Kobren introduced Spiegel, a filmmaker, to Mehne, chairwoman of the SPCA of Westchester’s board of directors.

Spiegel was asked to create a promotional video for the organization’s annual fundraising gala.

A friendship began and talk turned to raising revenue for the shelter.

“We were looking for different ways to raise money,” Mehne said. “We joked about starting a business because we all loved to cook.”

Anybody can say they make a great dish, Kobren said of a nut recipe passed down from her great aunt, but “it’s very different to take it from table to market.”

After perfecting pinches of chocolate and sifting in spices, the trio did a test-run on friends, family and along the 2008 Hillary Clinton campaign trail where Kobren’s son worked.
