The Internet has changed everything, from the way we work and conduct business to the way we play and socialize. We can research facts and figures instantly – albeit with a wary eye – listen to our favorite tunes, read and watch what’s making headlines, get reacquainted with high school pals, post resumes, book trips … on and on and on.
And with all that’s available online, many tools of the trade have become obsolete.
Does anyone – save an editor – own a dictionary anymore? Or even know what an encyclopedia looks like?
Or visit a library? That depends on a number of factors, including who you are, what you do and what that library has to offer.
One could argue that in the case of Iona College, the school took a leap of faith by initiating a multimillion-dollar expansion of its library.
But Brother James A. Liguori, president of the New Rochelle school, views the undertaking as an important milestone in the college’s 69-year history and, on a more personal note, a vision realized.
The college plans to dedicate its redesigned Ryan Library at a ceremony Oct. 17. The $14-plus million project is the latest piece of a master plan the college has been implementing since 1995.
